Create a project

Spin up a new project from scratch or from a template.

A new project starts in the Draft status, with at least one unit and the full set of category sheets pre-provisioned.

Steps

From the workspace dashboard, click Projects in the left nav, then + New project.

Fill in the basics:

  • Project name, anything memorable. Customer-facing on exports.
  • Lot number and Address, for your records and the workbook cover.
  • Customer name, appears on the workbook cover and the public preview.
  • Sales rep and Architect, optional, for cross-reference.
  • Project type, Duplex, Triplex, Single-family, Custom. Affects the template picker default.
  • Target move-in date, optional, surfaced on the dashboard.

Pick a starting point:

  • From scratch, empty project, one unit, schema-default sheets.
  • From a template, pre-populates units, columns, and starter items. See start from template.

Click Create. You land on the new project's dashboard.

What happens behind the scenes

  • The project is created in Draft status with no completion timestamps anywhere.
  • Each spec category gets its sheets provisioned: per-project categories get one sheet, per-unit categories get one sheet per unit.
  • If you picked a template, items, custom columns, and unit names are stamped from the template. Image attachments do not carry over from templates.
  • The new project appears in the workspace audit log with action create.

Tips

  • Names are easy to change later (project header → edit), so don't agonise over the wording.
  • Lot number and address are the fields most often used to locate a project in the search, keep them consistent with how your team refers to builds.
