Copy a unit

Duplicate a unit and all of its per-unit sheets, items, and attachments.

Copying a unit creates a new unit in the same project and clones every per-unit sheet from the source unit, including items, notes, attribute values, and image attachments. The new unit is independent, editing it doesn't change the original.

Where the action lives

There are two places to start a unit copy. Both open the same dialog and produce the same result.

  • Unit tab menu. On the unit tab strip at the top of the project, click the button on the unit you want to copy and choose Copy this unit.
  • Project dashboard. On the project dashboard, the active unit shows a "currently viewing" banner with a Copy this unit button on the right side. Click it to copy whichever unit is currently selected.

Both options are disabled when the project has only one unit. Add another unit first, or use duplicate a project instead.

Steps

Open the project.

Either click the menu on the unit tab and pick Copy this unit, or click the Copy this unit button on the project dashboard's active-unit banner.

Type a name for the new unit (defaults to Source name (copy)) and confirm.

Copy this unit in the unit tab menu and on the dashboard
Both entry points open the same copy dialog.

What gets copied

  • Every per-unit sheet for that unit.
  • Every item on each of those sheets, names, classifications, notes, attribute values.
  • Every image attachment on each item, files are cloned in storage so the new unit has its own copies.

What does not get copied

  • Per-project sheets, they're shared, not per-unit.
  • The source unit's completion timestamps, the new unit's sheets start in editing state.
  • Comments and item-level history, those belong to the source items.

When to use it

  • A duplex with two near-identical units: build one fully, then copy.
  • A custom build where Unit B starts from Unit A's spec but differs on a few items.

Performance

The copy is server-side and includes attachment cloning. For a fully populated unit with lots of images this can take a few seconds. The UI shows a progress indicator, don't navigate away mid-copy.
